How Much Does It Cost To Lay Travertine

-Student Presidential Advisory Council on Student Welfare

Santiago, May 23, 2007

Friends,
The "Penguin Revolution" last year resulted in the entire country debated about education our country. The authorities, realizing such a scenario, coordinated a series of policy actions in any way be a solution to the students' demands. Thus is created the Presidential Advisory Council on Education, questioned agency due to the high number of members (81), but which, however, at the end of 2006 gave a final report was based on education proposals that make up the bill sent to Congress by the Executive (LGE) . This project brings major reforms in pre-primary education, primary and secondary, some issues to be discussed are: In order to gain the education, greater scrutiny to holders by the state and school ban on discrimination in the selection of their students Students, etc.
However, the report of the Advisory Council fails to discuss issues of Higher Education, therefore, proposed to the President of Creation Presidential Advisory Council on Higher Education, which was called a little over a month and participates in the Federation on behalf of CONFECH.
up this Council 27 representatives, academics, rectors of public and private universities, educationists, students and others.
Our university, for the first time in 13 years, is represented in a real discussion of education policy at the national level, and as president I think that rather than a duty to the spokesperson, we have the responsibility to carry out a good paper in which to submit actual proposals to reform the higher education system. This leads me to write this statement.
Today more than ever we are able to change the direction of higher education unequal, discriminatory and largely unregulated. Today more than ever we can change what we criticize our UTEM. Here are some data. Our University is a public entity that receives less state resources (¿?): direct consequence, self-financing (creation of special plans, sprints, etc.). Then we wonder why the UTEM to be a state university receives less financial support the Pontifical UC, which is private. The small state contribution, "restricts the research, extension and teaching must develop the UTEM?, What is the role of State Public Universities? Are some questions that will be achieved in that Council respond. Added to these problems
has formed a working agenda that will explore the following areas: Quality (Is today the Law of the quality assurance instrument for measuring real? Is the ANC, former CNAP, who should measure quality? ) Democratization (LOCE Is the best law to regulate the institutions?, "All higher education institutions should have student organization and association?, Do triestamentalidad is valid?, is it necessary to create an academic career regulations and present a regulatory framework input and output of academic awards?, etc.) Access (Who is authorized to establish a Centre for Higher Education?, "There are few requirements imposed by the State to create a university?, who controls the creation of racing, the market or the students?," PSU is the best measurement tool to enter the University?, etc.) and Finance ("Private Universities should receive state funding?, Should I delete the AFI?, etc.). These are some questions to answer the Council.
As already described, takes relevant real opinion that statements such as UTEM, the power to contribute to the improvement of higher education is an opportunity not every day has, so we need to generate a solid opinion on the issue.
I invite friends to imagine their ideal university to help make better UTEM. I invite you to share and discuss proposals put forward their concerns and proposals to their leaders (CCEE), to discuss with them.
is everyone's responsibility.
to represent well the UTEM students in the Council, we need everyone to think, reason and develop.
Sincerely, Claudio Muñoz Asenjo

For students and their representatives the issue of allocation of credits and grants, is one of the most important issues to be addressed within each period, as many students rely the result of this, to study. It is known that for over three years, the problem generated by the management, allocation and appeal to them, show deplorable results to the tranquility of the students in their academic period. Becomes more important fact, since according to results derived by the Federation of Students FEUTEM (2004-2006), near 80% of students in our university is benefiting from the state credit.

You can understand then the importance of this issue among ourselves, the percentage of allocation and meeting deadlines is of paramount importance, since it is not a subject to treat lightly. Unfortunately, the participation of the Directorate of Welfare, as has been the norm in years, was little proactive, indeed, never sought to take the lead in delivering data, the way to work was slow and not very precise as to dates is .

We no longer call attention to the lack of concern on this issue well, because for a long time we students We finished getting the job done is more, this year we try to advance the work gathering information and calling our friends to appeal to every welfare office, but even so there are no payroll results. Adding to the welfare robbery which delayed the process further, which should be ready, the issue for which we have received no explanation or a solution and future prevention.
As outlined above is that we demand that you as Chancellor to rule to this topic raised the shares to continue to improve the abysmal performance of the wellness area, currently headed by Ms. Matilde Díaz. Such as verifying the Department's strategic plan Welfare in terms of grants and credits in meeting deadlines, duties, obligations and horizontal.

The respond is the minimum that we require when the issue of credit allocation goes beyond the merely academic and dignity he joined us. The commitment of the students has fully complied with, as they gave their appeal information on the dates indicated, and therefore have left in the hands of an inefficient service its economic future on issues of tariffs. Taking known consequences such as: default, gateway to the trade journal, no job hiring, firing on them and uncertain in its commitment to student academics.

All student demands have been won by the power of social mobilization and participation of each one of us, so do not rule out resorting to this measure as to achieve our next goals.

Waiting for a response as quickly as possible,
