Haiti: I'm sick of the media

I graduated in journalism and my early professional years were developed within the sector. But no, I stop being sick, that the media choose all the time, what is news or not. It is true that in Haiti, due to an earthquake killed 75,000 people, but this country and should have been news a long time ago, being the poorest in America. And never was.

And is that poverty, or awareness, or sell, or raise the ratings, while the disaster itself. Especially if you serve the viewer shaken, like a circus, well mounted. We saw the invasions of Iraq and many other disasters (natural or manmade). But within twenty days, maybe sooner, " the issue will be attractive from a business perspective and audiences. Thus, the poverty and hardship in Haiti, will return to absolute oblivion. We've seen it many times: Ethiopia, Somalia, the tsunami in Southeast Asia, Iraq ...!

is true, that 75,000 dead in a week of carnage, many dead. But still, I find more news, every six seconds a child dies on our planet. Let accounts: 10, the minute, 600 an hour; 14,400 a day and 5,256,000 per year (not leap)!. But of those, no one remembers, perhaps, a little bit at Christmas, or any entity or person, asks us to deduct money of our payroll, for the poor victims or make donations.

And, unlike the upheaval in Haiti, in the case of the starving children, they will not George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt or Sandra Bullock, to give running a million dollars, because that way, would not come in newspapers, worldwide. Advertising cheaper worldwide and expense of the poor Haitians will not ever have!. If you want to donate that amount, which for them is like 10 euros for me, "do so in silence, like any other citizen. I have wanted, to see these actors millionaires, giving generous donations without publicity, poor countries in Africa, for example. Sure, there are some not so much hype, I do, with discretion!

As I said, poverty is not sold. For indeed, in our own Spain, there are nine million poor people and nobody gives them a donation or better still a possibility of earning an honest living. And, someone would know to recite the list of world's poorest countries?. I think not. I now, I'm going to san Google, to see if I'm out of questions: There are several entrances and take this, at random: Zambia, Gaza, Zimbabwe, Chad, Mooldavia, Haiti, Liberia, Guatemala, Suriname, Angola ( Wear alone, the top ten). Except for Haiti and the Gaza Strip, both for obvious reasons, "someone saw on the news in recent months, references to these countries?. At least the English television sensitive, could make a travelers Street in Chad or English, in Zambia.

But what I'm more tired, is how the media plays with our sensibilities. Phrases in all programs, even in sports, "such as:" poor "or" what they are past. " Let's see if they knew, that what they are going, even without catastrophe, is since the world began and no, since last Tuesday!.

Of course, all day, listening to the rattle, the citizens, we enter the legal attack sensitivity, which happens to us, of course, after seeing the news and go to the bank, to leave a small donation, which the banker also of course, will take your sliced, as commission. Because bankers never lose. That

citizens, we enter these sudden attacks of sentimentality, rather than sensibility, it is still normal, because we are human beings with blood in his veins. But governments are now tearing their clothes, and it cries out to heaven!. If they were fully knowledgeable of the dire situation in Haiti, long before the bloody catastrophe!. Yes, now it lost in discussions of why we have caught clueless and have left out, most U.S. Marines in the photos of the newspapers. Insensitive bureaucrats and miserable!.

But the culmination of my weariness, came when yesterday, I read a story with this headline: "A luxury cruise, landed in Haiti, close to the disaster." Wow, starting, that the organizing agency, not an expert in keeping up appearances, and has the gift of opportunity (could have landed in the Dominican Republic), the rest of the idea, that we intended to convey the news, I think demagoguery, pure and offensive. Let's see!: I'm not going to stop traveling, all sub-Saharan Africa, because they are dying of hunger not to go on vacation because Chadians can not allow or do not eat, because in Rwanda do not have half or a dollar a day, for all their expenses. The world's problems, we have not caused the citizen-traveler or not, nor we are responsible to solve them. Lords

journalists: Leave us alone to travelers, are class or not. For us, going to sites and try to knowledge, integrity among its people and understand them. Little else can we do (with exceptions). You go, take the photo or the story, assemble the circus, is back home and forget.

promise that this blog will continue to speak of Haiti, when no one talks about Haiti.
